We decided to raise chickens for eggs and pets this spring. We started with 7 because I couldn't decide which variety to get so I bought one of each. I had also read that often times chicks die in early life,(that hasn't happend yet) and we have a chance of having a rooster or two (won't know until they grow up), and we don't want to be left with less than 3-4 chicks to make it worth the time and cost. Stan's mom will probably get the ones we don't keep. Lailana was so good with the chicks when we 1st got them, excited but not obsessive. Now we can't keep her hands off of them. There are two that don't mind her torture. The others squak whenever she holds them. One flies out of the box every time she takes the lid off of their box. We have to keep them indoors for 8 weeks under heat lamp until they fully grow feathers. What a chore! But they are cute.
